Rofgo-Collection - Racingscene - Can-AM 1972 »

The Canadian-American Challenge Cup (CanAm or Can-Am) was a series of sports car races in North America in the years 1966 till 1974.

Can-Am began as a racing series for racing cars with two race events in Canada (therefor "Can") and four races in the United States (therefor "Am"). For this series, initially sponsored by J-Wax, the Group-7-rules from the FIA-rule book applied, which contained very few regulations concerning innovations. These rules allowed practically limitless possibilities to experiment with the cubic capacity, engine power, turbocharger and downforce of the cars.

The artwork shows the scene from the Can-Am race of 1972 with Denny Hulme in his McLaren M20 in front of George Follmer in his Porsche 917/10, who in the end crossed the finish line as the winner in front of Hulme.
