Overall champions - Section Mercedes-Benz »
The year 1926 was the hour of birth for the brand name Mercedes-Benz. In 1928 the vehicle manufacturer from Untertürkheim developed the two-seater racing car SSKL, which reached an astonishing 235 km/h. With this model the Remagen-born Otto Wilhelm Rudolf Caracciola caused a sensation. As the first non-Italian driver he took the lead in the legendary road race Mille Miglia in 1931.
Barely 10 years later, in the year 1955, Mercedes-Benz was able to win another victory. Deriving from the Formula 1 racing car W 196, the model 300 SLR established the course record that has remained unchallenged until today.
