Already in the age of 17 the Milan-born engineer Ettore Bugatti began to construct motorized vehicles and with them regularly took part in races himself. Together with Ernest Jules Friederich, he founded the automotive manufacturing company Automobiles Ettore Bugatti in Molsheim in today´s France in 1909. Besides the light-weight built racing cars, also sport- and racing cars were created here, as well as first blueprints for rail vehicles, plane engines and speedboats.
With their model T40, Bugatti could achieve their class victory in the year 1927 in class F in the very first Coppa delle 1000 Miglia.
