IXémes Grand Prix d´Endurance de 24 Heures
The race in 1931 took place in the city centre of Le Mans for the last time and with the cessation of Bentley´s racing programme ended their dominance on this racing track. The era of Alfa-Romeo-models began, which started with their first factory team in this year. The French Équipe Bugatti, as well as the British brands Aston Martin and MG, debuted at the Sarthe too. With an average speed of 139,234 km/h Boris Ivanowski achieved a record with the the fastest round in his Mercedes-Benz Supersport Kurz, which had been designed by Ferdinand Porsche. The first-placed team Francis Curzon and Tim Birkin covered a distance of 3017,654 kilometres and crossed the 3000 kilometre mark for the very first time.
