In Milan´s suburb Portello, the Società Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili began to produce their first purely Italian make in 1910, after giving up their assembly line of the French manufacturer Darracq. As a brand logo they carried the city´s coat of arms and the short name Alfa Milano with two Savoyan knots on a dark blue band. After having been taken over by the entrepreneur and engineer Nicola Romeo the name was changed to Alfa-Romeo Milano. Since the world champion´s title in 1925, a laurel wreath adorns the emblem. Alfa-Romeo made its debut in Le Mans in 1930 with a 6C 1750 Gran Sport. Between 1931 and 1939 the 8C-Models coined the fame of this racing car brand with four overall victories in a row. In 1932 and 1933 double- and triple victories were recorded.
